Hot Head 5.5 Ferret Coil

New member
I picked up the Ferret coil Below. Bought it off a guy that was selling a 6000SL Pro. Trouble is when
I connect it to my IDX Pro the detector has a uncontrollable Erratic tone even with the sensitivity down low!
Any Ideas what the problem may be and is it possible to fix it?????

I forgot to ask you before do you know for sure IF the Ferret was being used before on the other guy's 6000 Pro? Did he say he used it on that detector? Also have other coils on your IDX Pro been working ok? Are you "Positive" without a doubt that the Ferret is 6.59 KHZ? Just trying to narrow things down a little.

No I'm not sure!

No!

All my whites coils work fine on the IDX

I am a solid fan of White's IDX Pro and Classic III SL (especially when modified), the 6000 Pro XL (later renamed the XL Pro) and the XLT, all of which share the same 6.59 kHz coils.

For them my favorite search coils, in order of preference, have been the following, and in the order of preference:

(For general hunting use because I usually work in trashy or brushy or building-debris cluttered sites.)

Thanks Monte I'm going to look into it and see If I can find the problem...

Think I'll just send it to Keith Wills!

Once it is working up to normal condition, I think you'll really enjoy it in some trashy environments.

Even if it's Not Trashy you'll still enjoy using it.Mine gets Great Depth for such a small coil! And PinPointing is Spot on!
I hope Keith can get it going for you! If you like that coil as much as I do,then you'll know why I always brag about it!

Keith Wills about looking at the Hot Head Ferret. I told him the details about the coil and he said it sounded
like one of the coil windings has shorted with another. So basically what I have is a $58.00 Frisbee... Anyone
care to share there thoughts on this? Would you try to fix it yourself or donate the coil to someone at the Geotech
forum for research?
