Hot day at the river

Well-known member
I managed to get to the river Friday even tho I wanted to go somewhere else. I didn't get to leave the house until almost 10 am and was 10:30 getting into the water. Using the 5 X 8 coil on the At/Pro. Found 1 ring, eagle, two buttons and one looked like it was made of copper, 1 marble. Found a 1952 quarter with no mint mark, found a 1964 dime and lost it at the car. I keep my finds bag around my waist and when I'm in chest deep or neck deep water, I put my finds in my shirt pocket. When I got back to the car and was putting the finds in my pouch, I dropped some of the coins and recovered a penny. The dime had the same patina as the quarter and must have blended in with the pavement and somebody will find themselves a silver dime, courtesy of tired old Fongu. Crappie rig, some other style of fishing stuff I'm not familiar with. It's been over cast all day and these photos aren't too clear. Tried to retake them and they came out worse than the ones this morning. I think the ring may be gold plated, it's got china marked on the inside band. Passed the magnet test, but I still think it's junk. Peace symbol, # 18 jewelry item, no markings. All these items passed the magnet test, but have no markings. Try and test them this week and see if they are anything good or just junk. Brought home two quarters, 3 dimes & nickels and 9 pennies. It hit 101 that day and the thing I noticed was the guys with the PI detectors are digging huge holes all over the place and will probably get us all kicked out of this swim park. I'm really looking forward to November when they let the water down for dock maintenence and to kill aquatic weeds. The silver quarter was in the same area I found the standing liberty quarter and mercury dime in 2012 and 2013. I was about neck deep and when they let the water down and I rent a wetsuit, the neck deep water will be about knee deep and the area just past this will be loaded with untouched silver coins and jewelry. Unless the two pi guys get us kicked out or have scuba gear and hit it befor the water comes down. GL & HH.

Nice finds! You are so right about people digging DEEP holes and not filling them in causing problems. Not good PR at all. All it takes is a kid to break a leg or worse, get stuck and drown, then the mighty hammer comes down!

Congratulations on the silver Q! Thats a whole lot of targets there! :clapping: Hey regarding the dime you dropped...i hunt on ashphalt parking lots successfully all the time right after the snow piles melt and theres money hidden in the sand and dirt...so maybe the next time you go back you can give the area a quick sweep and find it?

Cool stuff and good job getting out in this heat. I got too hot 3 weeks ago and haven't been right since. I hate this getting old stuff, lol.

Good haul fongu!! And nice on the Washington!! Dang, those PI guys still mucking up the place?? Plenty of water and rest dgruff, :tongue:and here's to aging gracefully :cheers:

Man that's a lot of finds ! Any silver quarter day is a good day, and I really like the marble.

Leslie, Bud seems to be their favorite beer. When I used to imbibe, I liked Heineken myself.
I like the marble myself, upnorth. I don't find many silver coins and seem to lose the ones that I do find.
WY & John, they're going to get us kicked out of the park, I'm afraid. I only met one of the guys once and he was asking me about why the PI detectors had such short shafts and I wish I could run into them again and advise them to fill in their holes.
dgruff, that's why I hunt in the water 95% of the time, can't take the heat. Even tho it got over 100 that day, when I first got in the water, it was cold to me. I wondered why there were no crowds and then realized the public bathroom had been closed nearly a month and also school started back about a week or two ago.
Thanks Mud, I doubt it will be there when I go back, but I'll try and be more careful in the future. I was tired and in pain and my mind just shut down. I wish I'd found as many good targets as I did junk, but that comes with the hobby.
