Its an easy climb, only 3 levels, but extremely well kept.Very clean..Here is looking out the first window...[attachment 64153 HospitalPoint014.jpg]and the next..[attachment 64152 HospitalPoint005.jpg] Here is getting to the Lens area..at the top of those stairs,on the right,is a 2 ft square opening to climb out to the outer rail.[attachment 64155 HospitalPoint013.jpg] Here is the Fresnel Lens, right at my face![attachment 64159 HospitalPoint011.jpg]Felt like i was looking at the Holy Grail![attachment 64160 HospitalPoint006.jpg][attachment 64161 HospitalPoint007.jpg] Can't get any closer to that! It looked like a Halogen bulb in the center. It has 12000 candlepower, and shoots a fixed light visible to 14 miles seaward! Rj

It is hard to believe that light can be seen 14 miles distance. This is really interesting. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

The lens was invented by a Frenchman back at the turn of the century, and have been used in Lighthouse's since.

Cannot tell you why.... I just love lighthouses. I was offered a job at one time working at Race Rocks. In retrospect, I wish that I had taken it. But, we had little uns and horses back then. It would have been too much to expect Alice and the kids to adapt to my wishes to that extreme.

But, oh, what might have been. :)
