Horseshoe coil on Excalibur

Why the mystic over the horseshoe coil on the older red headphone stlye Excaliburs. I owned one for years and heard faint sounds out there that these coils had some magic to them. Even though they were small to swing with I loved them but don't know why. Have any of you ever heard anything definitive regarding these coils?
