Hori Hori knife for a digger

Im thinking about getting a Hori hori as my digging tool. Have any of you ever used one for metal detecting? Are they strong enough to last for years

I've used one for a few years and have been happy with it.
The only thing I found the handle is thin so what I did was glue and taped
about a one inch piece of wood on top and it makes the handle
more handy and comfortable to work with.

Mine didn't last too long but I'm used to using my digging tool as a pry bar too, it bent near the handle. For me it is a Lesche/Predator without a doubt, I have never broke or bent one of those.

Well I have went through a lot of diggers and I found the one pictured that I got at Tractor Supply early last year. I first tried it as it came, but that blunt notch was a problem. I took a small grinder (dremel) to the V notch and put a edge on it. It is starting on its second season and it is the best I have ever used. That sharp V notch really helped with the digging and the big bonus was that sharp V notch makes short order of cutting through small roots. Also seems to be pretty good steel, it is still going on the original sharpening.

Good luck,
Ron in WV

Years ago I used a Hori hori. It broke at the middle of the blade, I tend to pry with my digging tools. Can't break the Lesche tool.

Im not going to get a Hori Hori then. I want something that wont break. Ill order the Lesche. Today I broke a Fiskars that I had it for a little over a year and had to buy a cheap Chinese thingy that wont last a month.

pry with mine too..One like you pic'd up broke in middle of blade...and darn near broke my wrist when it let go... was sore for a month.

I've used the Hori Hori for over 20 years and have never broken or even bent one. I pry with mine also. There are a number of different manufacturers that make the Hori Hori knives so I assume some are better than others. I recommend the carbon steel version as it's tougher than the Stainless Steel version.

I'm a believer in using what YOU like. That said, when you've broken or wore out all the others, spend the money and settle on the Lesche.
