Hopewell Virginia and V3i

Has anyone ever heard of Hopewell Virginia or live around there? I may have a chance to detect a 3 acre woods near a stream. He says its large oak trees and easy to walk around. Also said he has found arrowheads around there.

I looked it up and to make a long story short, about 900 slaves ended up going there during the civil war. The town just opened up a new museum display, so if I do find anything and the land owner says its ok, I might let them have it since its their history.

Im just wondering how I should aproach such a site with my V3i....besides slowly. Any advice on programs or settings? I wonder what the soil is like. Also what kind of digger should I use. I have a Lesche and was looking at the shovels they have.

Dude!!! Forget CW stuff....you are only a few miles from the original James Colony! I see guys posting stuff from 1500's from those areas! It is one of the few areas that produces hammered coins in the US!!!

I wish I was a bit closer. It is a 4 hour drive for me.

I use the Relic Pro from Predator Tools. It digs nice plugs and cuts through thick roots.

As much as I would like to find a hammered coin, I will be happy to find some civil war stuff or maybe even a slave tag. Who knows, maybe Mr James walked through the woods and dropped a pouch full of coins. :clapping:

You will need a shovel, which one is just a personal choice. It doesn't have to be a detecting shovel.

Unless a person knows the soil conditions, i don't see how advise on adjustments can be given.

I'd use mixed mode (I like stereo mixed mode) or a relic program. You won't be just hunting coins.
