Hope to get out with the updated V3i tomorrow and dig some deep relics, stay tuned

Got my machine updated and plan to go out to my trusty old testing grounds for deep civil war bullets. Got a new phone as well so I hope I can figure out how to run the video while I am getting some deep targets.

I find it strange that people feel the V3 won't go that deep. Every time I went to my place that has been pounded for over 30 years with every machine I would get at least 10 bullets within 2 hours which is fantastic.

I use a landscapers shovel that has a 16 or 18" blade on it and dig a hole larger than my coil so I know the target is in the center.

After I get down about 8 or so inches and it pinpoints in the center I take a stick and carefully dig until I find the bullet in the bottom still stuck in the dirt.

Most are at least 12" with the deepest being 14" but there were several of them at that dept as well.

The other interesting thing I found was that I was finding bullets pointing straight up and straight down maybe in the 10" range but I know they were missed by me and everyone else since there was not much surface area to detect.

I have only seen this phenomenon with one other detector and that was my Teknectics S/T years ago since it was also I high transmit power machine

Maybe our ground is just really good here and allows for the deepest detecting other than pure sand. There is some clay here when you get down past 5" but I think the minerals are very low to mild.

I hope to have some finds to post tomorrow night, and hope I can make a live video digging some deep stuff.

I also have a video on my old phone digging some deep friction primers right off the side of a confederate gun emplacement that were really deep but the multi-frequency pulled them out of a place I had scanned every inch before with every detector I have ever owned.

Do you have low ground mineralization? Do your deep bullets hit with repeatable mid/high tones at those depths?

I did not do the ground probe but it is very mild with some EMI.

I went out and got 16 bullets in 2 1/2 hours which is the best I have done in quite some time.

As I had mentioned some like the past were flattened ones that were turned on edge about 8-10" or even pointed straight up or down.

I did get one 54 calibur round ball which are very hard to pick up as well.

I did not get any in the 14" range but now that I am thinking about it I believe I was getting the extra deep ones with the 950 loop but will have to use that next time.

Deepest in ground measurements were 10" with at least 2" of leaves, etc.

I will try and get a photo of them in the next day or so.

The last time I went detecting at the same place when may machine was not working properly I only dug 3 or 4 bullets.

Now I just need to get back out more and practice with my V3i to get more proficient with it.

Hope this helps

If your soil is mild the 950 can give you a little more depth. The DD will shine as the minerals go up.

That's why I like having mixed mode for relic hunting since I had years with the DMC Nautilus which has the all metal channel working at the same time as the disc. channel.

I also used to use an xlt in mixed mode as well to achieve the same results or similar I should say.

On my V3i If a target is completely out of range of the disc. you won't get anything but 90% of the 10-12" bullets give a low tone then a beep etc.

One thing that you need to be careful of I was noticing this last hunt was some of the deepest or ones that were flat and turned on edge or pointing up or down gave mostly an iron tone but since they were deep.

I scalped and inch or two off and the tone ID would come in nicely or more repeatable so if someone only dug perfect sounds up front they would miss the deepest stuff.

I have always hunted pounded sites for the deeper targets left over so I am used to having to really work to make the deep ones ID

I will try and pay closer attention as I get out more and dig more targets to be able to report results and answer any questions.

I will also try and get a video camera or get better using my phone to record what is happening before I dig on the screen and the audio and shots of each along the way as well

as with the final target still stuck in the bottom of the hole.

Hope to see the video.
