:csflag:I am going to give the X-Terra a serious run for the money, purchasing 1st of June,Tesoro fan here, but i must admit the X-Terra is reeling me in,i hope to have a keeper here, love the total design, pack tight, light, nice digital format, love the way control box pops on and off, different kHz coils, minelab is working overtime for us treasure hunters it looks like!.Nice $ too,i hope i will like it,i mean how could you not like it?.Dr.Who.

I've owned Tesoro's in the past, the last two being a Stingray II & Tejon. I liked them well enough, but they both had a couple of achille's heals that made them irritating to use for my main mode of detecting which is beach/wading/water etc. They have a loyal following for those that find the simplicity and combination of features useful for their style of hunting. The little Compadre I believe remains the performance/quality leader in the $150USD price range.

That being said Tesoro has just not been competitive for some time with their TID/VDI offerings. And in comparison to recent offerings from other companies they look antiquated. There have been rumors for a while that those class of machines were going to be updated. But now they have a major problem on their hands, which is the X-Terra X305 with a street price at the $400USD mark. Current price for the Cortes is about $75USD more & the DeLeon a whopping $275USD more. I have a suspicion that some sort of alliance between Tesoro & Troy detectors may be underway. But even if it is, neither has demonstrated the ability to design/build a world class TID/VDI with a sophisticated interface. And that level of complexity takes a lot of field testing and bug chasing, as a recently released flagship detector is demonstrating.;)

Before your X-Terra arrives take some time to wander around the FAQ at the top of this page, most everybody on this this forum is very friendly except me.

My detector of choice for many years was the MXT and a Tesoro Vaquero for a short while. Both are very good machines. However, both of my previous machines were for sale about 2 weeks after I purchased the X-70. The versatility and user friendly controls are just amazing. All menu functions are very easily accomplished. I think that once you get your X machine you will agree that it is one solid performer with very little hype (If any ) attached to it. Good luck. Sorry if I sound so biased but...The machine just make you that way.

I have the the xterra 305 and love it it rocks also had the xterra 70 and got rid of it. like my 305 better. 305s the best machine out there for the money right now no doubt.

Hi Doc, (Chuck?), I love my X Terra but also love my Tesoros. I've found more silver rings with my Eldorado than any other machine I've owned or now own. However, my X Terra 70 is my winner for gold, so between them I have a lot of fun. All the best, Sapper.

hey trackerman,,,i want one,,which coil is on it,,i want the 18.75 coil fitted when i buy it ,,but still need your input as to what i may expect,,,rgds c omcat:ukflag:

Stock 9inch 7.5klhz coil wich is a good coil on the xterras.Good for coins and depth also will hit jewlry.Im sure the 18.75 klhz coils are good for gold. But the stock coil is pretty good.

i have my new x terra 305 and im very satisfied with it.
im a peruvian relic hunter and in my country we have a lot of problems with mineralized grounds and big antennas...
i used before some whites and other brands of detectors and some of them simply stop working in some places where i prospect.
this machine works in those places without problems.
i found a 1862 silver coin with a bullet hole in my first day with the machine in a battle camp, place where anybody can prospect before because is in front of a group of tv and radio antennas...is the first silver coin with a bullet hole found in my city....
i was impressed with this!

I just got my 305 Thursday and headed to the Columbia River Gorge with friends. I am used to the White's Prizm III, but this one is far more sensitive! It's gonna take some practice because I dug alot of junk, but also alot of coins. I will have to play around with/learn the adjustments to become proficient. But let there be no doubt: I love this detector!
