I've had all three Explorers (still have a II and SE) and got a 75 when they came out. I use the 75 all the time now and it's not just because of the novelty of it being the new kid in my arsenal. 
There's no doubt that the Explorers have improved over time and that they have delivered results that can't be disputed but they've only been arguably "tweaked" since the XS. The designers of the 75 (and T-2)had all the present ID units on the market to analyze and try and make a detector that does things better. They were successful in meeting that design criteria IMO.
