Hookah Air hose Lines...

The air lines I use for my Hookah are 100' long. Originally they came in a nice tightly coiled package secured with nylon tape. Undoing the tape and straightening them out was a little hassle. When done diving I have to re-roll those hoses into some kind of coil so they can be transported and stored. That's really hard to do as they want to return to the tight coil like when received...but not consistently enough to coil them that way. You absolutely must unroll the line. If you just pull on one of the loose ends, it'll peel out of the coil but there will be a full twist, a loop, every 2' or so. Unless you get those twists out you now have a tightly coiled 50' line. It looks like a large headphone coiled wire.
I''ve been looking to get hose reels and mounting those on my wagon and that would solve the problem. However, I do carry other items, weight belt, detector, mask, etc,, on the wagon when walking to the water's edge and I think it'd be pretty tough to mount two reels on there and still keep any use able space for anything else. Anyone got any ideas how to solve this problem? The 60' lines on the Airline are not a hassle. Seems like the extra 40' triples the difficulty of coiling it. Jim

Rather than complete hose reels you could try a small rotating platform(similar to half a reel) place each coil of hose on it to uncoil and recoil, then store it on edge. Another idea is cut the hose in 2 lengths and join with snap conectors, although i don't know of any make specifically for a hookah system, i have them in my garage compressor, they could work and hence you can have whatever length you need, when done easier to recoil by breaking into shorter lengths(never had one come loose yet even at high pressure)

If coiling by hand, streached out straight is far easier so the end can turn, you could also use reverse coils every now and then when it decides to kink, also bigger loops are easier.
Hope this might stimulate an idea

If you do a google for lazy susan turntable bearings you'll get some pics and maybe ideas for a simple turntable for coiling hoses

There is a Rockler WoodWorkers Store on Stoneway just off 45th near the U District in Seattle.

Best,

Grumpy would you post some pics of your setup, so that we can see your progress! And maybe hijack some of your ideas?

Steve :)

Why not just go to a local hose company, and take your hose with you and see what they make for you. I had a car wash equipment co. for 10 years, I would get the hoses I needed though a couple different company's at a reduced rate plus they stand behind there products they sell you. Plus they can check with the manufacture to what hose is best for the job. See if they have hoses with out all the memoir ( that means they won't hold the coiled up position when you unroll then) . Plus if you get a hose reel, go get a really good swivel, not that junk one that comes with most hose reels comes with. Must hose company's will have good ones with S.S. hose ends and even reusable fittings. I bet in the long run you will save money going thur a local company, with better hose and fittings. Parker are top of the line fittings, with a wild range of fittings. I hope this might help you.

Thanks all. I don't have the hose reel set up figured out yet. Still thinking. I know Parker is good. I have to use hose that has lining that won't deterioate with invisible particles that will lodge in the lungs. Their is a special kind of hose certified for breathing rather than running air to a tool. working on it.
kaptainkosmick, I posted 5 pictures of the set up here about a month ago. Might want to search under my forum name and then you can find it. I still have pictures here on the computer and if you want me to send them to an email address just pm me. Hookamax asked to use one of my pictures on their website and you can see the one that shows how I mounted everything on a wagon. Be happy to share whatever would be of use to you...Jim
