HONEY HOLE

G'day,

A few months ago I joined a club to learn more about m.d.
I met a guy ( we will call him Madmax) much more experienced than me who swings an Etrac and who I now detect regularly on weekends with.
Yesterday we were scouting around and tried 3 spots for modest amounts ...around $30-35 each.
If I went home with that amount, I would have been happy but as the day was still young we tried out a new part of a park that Max had been to previously.

Well, what a great decision, we pulled out the ground over $140 between us in 2 hours.
For the day, I totalled $104 with my Xterra and Max with the Trac $108...$212 in total.

The "honey hole" area itself was no bigger than 5 x 10 metres (roughly 15x 30 feet) and the majority of coins were concentrated in a much smaller area than that.
We gridded and then re-gridded then diagonally.
I just could not believe how close together the targets were, we were digging only inches away from previous targets.
We were tidy with our holes and hope to make a return there in the future when it replenishes itself with "treasure".

What a fun day .
Happy detecting to all.

I wish that the good ol USA would invest in some one and two dollar coins. I have to go to Canada to find their loonies and toonies. I heard that Canada might make a $5 coin also, so it could be called a foonie.

It would be nice to find that much here in the U.S.. Nice finds.

Hello, Terra 1959, really nice work there. What kind of location was that? I can't think of any spot that can give up that kind of money. CBailey

Congrats on the finds. In Australia I imagine there are lots of big hotels at the resort beaches with umbrellas and beach bars. That is where to look for those kind of yields.
That is how we do it here in southern Europe, lots of 2Euro and 1Euro coin.It adds up fast.
But if I was in Oz,I would be a permanent resident of the gold fields.
Best of luck,
Nick

Gday,

My apologies Craig, but I have a gentlemens agreement with Madmax to keep it a secret.
I can only say that it is a small part of a large grass area.
...and that the Xterra 70 kicks butt. !

Madmax and I often detect together and have a couple sites that we wont detect without each other, we have made an agreement not to, and not to disclose their identity type or location- sorry.
We just looked for where people may congregate outdoors and were lucky to find it...like looking under big shady trees type of thing.
By the results we doubt if it had ever been detected before, or at least, not for a long time.

Don't ya just love it when you hit those spots! I find that keeping my nose to the ground (coil later:lol:) you can locate those spots. Like you, I wouldn't let on to where they are either. Mind you, I took werewolf to one of my honey holes at Christmas and the sod totally out hunted me. By the time he'd left, I'd found $7 and he had dug $40.:please:

hi Mick,

Yes mate Wolfman is a bit of a gun with a detector I hear...still its great to share a hunt or two with a friend.
You did quite well down in the city too mate - with some great finds, your no slouch by any means.
I think that luck.also plays a fair part..like your coil has to wave over that particular spot...is it physically / scientifically possible to cover every inch of say a park ?

One big lesson that I learned was just how many targets were missed the first time.
When we re-checked and cross gridded we picked up signals VERY close to previous target holes.
Some signals were one way only and when dug were good coins.
I used the standard 9" MF Concentric and Max the 11" DD.
I reckon the workings of the processor may have a bit to do with it ...
like just how fast can it signal to you multiple targets very close together...does it tend to lock in on one ? ...maybe the strongest signal ?

Anyway a much appreciated $52 towards my trip to the goldfields next week and $52 to the taxlady (wife).
Happy tecting to all.

Your spot on about rechecking a productive spot. I've done that a few times now and pulled up reasonable totals by doing it. I find that after the second hunt, I've usually got most that I'm going to hear.
I hunted over the area that Werewolf hunted after he left and pulled up a further $30 over the next few hours. Moral of the story. even the best don't get it all.
Nugget who posts on the Garrett and Bounty Hunter forums here was telling me of a hunt he did on a stretch of lawn next to the Indi Car race up at Surfers Paradise a couple of years ago. He was told by locals that he was waisting his time as 8 other detectorist had already hunted the spot. Armed with a Tracker 4, he pulled up $84 out of that spot.
