I've rolled many a roll or visited Coinstar many a time to pay for gas, batteries, even food.

I get the pennies too. Once took all the clad and pennies to the Coinstar machine and paid for our wedding dinner for us and all our guests.

I went to a tot lot and the river yesterday and found 39 coins and 33 were pennies, 1 quarter & 5 dimes. About 90 % pennies I guess, but it got me out of the house.

I grab all those zinc penny signals too! Looking for a big gold ring of course, and they do add up. I got over 10,000 coins last year for a little over 800 bucks, so I guess in the States an 8c clad target average is not too bad...its good excersize, and one of these days that zinc signal will pay off!

I found one school (elementary) that had almost nothing but quarters. Seems the hot lunch program costs 75 cents...kids lose the quarters after lunch on the playground and I'd show up after the kids left for the day. I had also once found a volley ball area of sand..It was filled with pennied upon pennies. Seems they were thrown in for the kids to be kept busy looking for them during some picnic program..what wasn't found by them was found by me.
Hope you all find some nice kids school playgrounds with loads of quarters. When I get back to that town again I will be hitting that spot again.
Good hunting

I dig all 1 cent signals, some are sterling rings. Cash in all the zincs and keep the solid copper ones.

I search them out, and often times get rewarded with silver rings reading somewhat the same on my AT VDI.

Very cool. Though not as valued by others like gold as I mentioned mine went to my marriage and well worth it to me :cheekkiss:

Those are some beautiful gold coins, John. That's a lot of pennies and a lot of digging. I'm still stove up from the dirt fishing on land last week, but you got to dig pennies to find the good stuff. I seem to have a range of 50-81 DVI on pennies and I guess it's because of the depth and other things in the soil or mud. Most times it's a 75 signal, but it varies quite a bit for some reason. With one or two exceptions I can tell by the tone if it's a penny or not.

I think John is going to get all these gold coins and make a treasure for all of us to find. John don,t make the map to hard to read, you know we all don,t do that very well. Let us know when you are going to do it so we can get new battery's. email me with a hint i won,t tell them. Flintstone

At current gold prices it would take 14'460 pennies to buy a 1/10 ounce $5 U.S. gold coin.

I hate to say it, but I haven't been digging too many signals that show up less than 80 on my AT Pro. After reading what you guys are posting you can bet I'll dig more pennies and maybe and occasional ring. I guess it's true, if you don't dig the trash you won't find the treasure. Looking for a detecting buddy in West Michigan. Good hunting!

No. Penny range is my favourite notch. Not only do our Aussie $1 and $2 coins fall in this notch, so do a couple of our small silver coins!
