Homestead

Well I got to put in about 7hrs today at a old homestead site that sat in the middle of a friends hunting lot. The lot is about 300acres and this place is way out there in the middle of no-where. The house at least what's left of it is still standing, there's remnants of a well that was there as well as a out house. I worked a couple of prime spots (IMO) and did quite well. I posted an article about my hunt at my web site (Home Page 3-18-06) and the Pics are on My Photo's Pages 3 and 4. I was set up for silver and IH's. I didn't want to go below a disc level of 70 primarily to avoid all the noise I may have picked up from casings, bird shot and numerous other low end targets. Anyway, I still feel I had a great day so take a stroll over to my site and enjoy the read and pics. BTW, the oldest find for the day was in the 1890's. Here's the pics of a couple of my finds.

Reality runs in your blood buddy as your one of those few that actually make it happen! Couldn't happen to a better guy thanks for your web site and for sharing all your great information! Great Finds!

Wanted to go back there today but Eric the my friend that got me in the place couldn't make it. Because the place sits in the middle of a hunting clubs lease only members are allowed to have keys in which to unlock the entrance/exit gates/chains. I'll talk to Eric tomorrow at work and see when he is planning on going back out there. I don't feel the place is worth my paying the 250.00 per year membership fee but I sure want to work the place till I feel comfortable I have got all it has to offer.

I always have back up places to detect, so a week or two away from it won't hurt. I still can picture what else lies there waiting for me to unearth. Once I finish working the high disc I'll start back over at the lower end to see if any old nickles are to be found.

Churning up some silver at an old homestead in central Ohio. Nothing spectacular. Just a nice silver dollar....And now here comes the fricken snow??/What's up with that??? Got a problem too...I almost didn't dig the Silver Dollar as I thought for sure it was a pop can! Anybody else ever think that? I mean it only showed 3 inches deep?

Excellent find KCK. I haven't found a silver dollar yet, but the half I found was an awful loud hit. At first I thought it was a can. It was only a few inches deep also. HH

That's a beaut sure nuff Ted. I know that had to have got the adrenaline flowing. You're right about the can thing to many times we overlook Halves and Dollars because of the VDI's they produce. I will normally profile the higher number targets or slowing raise my coil to the point where I will lose the signal. Then back it down again till I pick it up then try profiling. Loved the pic of the place, reminded me a lot of the places I detect. Homesteads and plantation mansions/sites are and always been my favorites. They seem to offer more versatility/variety in what one can come away with. I know I do love my old silver thus I seek them out passionately. With a find like that you know the place has something else to offer up so keep at it and let us know how you do.
