Homemade straight shaft

Pvc works OK. Try this. I made a nice S shaft with a couple of 45 degree connectors and 3 lengths of pvc pipe, a foam bicycle hand grip and some silver paint.
I slowly squished the end of a lenght of pvc pipe in a vice and with pvc glue on the inside to let it dry in the vise for the coil connector. Drilled out a hole for the coil bolt.
Then I bolted a sawn in half 5" pvc coupling for an arm cuff and... Voila! a XL 500 beach shaft on the cheap.
It has a little flex to it but not too bad with a small coil and a slow swing.

Weighs only a few ounces, super ultralight to swing, no shaft metal interference and best of all simple and cheap.

PF...looks like aluminum all the way to the coil bracket. Metal being that close to the coils top doesn't effect it? If id doesn't then I would have just used regular conduet, I thought I had to keep the metal shaft at least 5-6 in. away from the coil. I know on my ace 250 I can airtest on top the coil and it sounds off. But never airtested the top of the XL500 I made the shaft for.

The only metal on it is the 2 screws holding the arm cup on. The entire stem is pvc, you can build almost anything with the stuff. Kind of like a meccano set, limited only by your own imagination.
The white pvc was painted silver to look more refined.
