Homemade Meter

JHM

Member
My latest project. It seems to work fine on the test bench, I haven't tried it in the field yet. Cost me about $30 to make

Wow, did you get the plans somewhere or come up with them yourself? That is awesome, you will have to keep us updated on your inland detecting with it and if it works, it would be awesome to get a schematic!

That looks pretty good, far better then the digital multimeter ones (as if we don't look geekey enough already :detecting:).

What was the donor ? What's the switch do, backlight ?

Actually the meter is a 0-2vdc meter I bought off ebay. The sovereign gives a 0-2v signal that is related to the conductivity. I made a cable to access this signal and built the box and mount for the meter. The switch is to turn the display off and on. It's not a complicated thing to do, it just takes a lot of time. If your interested in building one I will be glad to send you the information. I may have to add a calibration pot later on . The calibration may change with the temperature.

Great idea. Maybe I could have put one on the Vaquero that I had. Put the basic info on the Modifications Forum.

As far as I know the Sovereign is the only detector that provides a 0-2vdc relating to the conductivity of the target. I had a Vaquero and would have loved to have had this option. They are really good detectors. As a matter of fact I've owned very few detectors that I just didn't like.

What about the Musketeer or Colt, have you tried them?

The sovereign is the only one that has the 0-2 vdc output. as far as I know. This was done so a meter could be added for the people that wanted one. The signal is generated in the circuit and sent out thru an extra pin in the coil wire. I'm sure it can be done to other detectors, but I'm don't have that knowledge. This site explains how to do it. Go to the sovereign link at the bottom of the page. http://www.dcdetec.com/
