Homemade lower shaft

Derbrain

New member
Hi all!
I'm trying to make an extra lower shaft for my CTX out of a spare carbon fiber rod.
My question is, where can I find the plastic part for the lower rod that I can attach the coil to?
Do you have any other ideas of what I could use instead, in case I won't be able to get my hands on one?

Thanks!

Marc

You might try adapting an Explorer shaft lower end.

Thanks for the replies. I figured I'd have to come up with a homemade solution. I'll send Minelab an email, but I doubt that they'll send that piece out by itself.
Cheers!

Marc , I tried obtaining the same piece from Minelab. Had no success. Hope you do.
I made this this for the Coiltek Elliptical but also works for stock coil. Works perfectly well with the CTX3030.

It's rough but it works fine. Hard to slide off the end, but a piece of duct tape will stop that from happening if it becomes a problem where it does slide of. Glue it on maybe.

Heated up a piece of 25mm (1inch) PVC irrigation pipe with a heat gun, then when soft enough, slid it onto a 1m (cut down to same length as stock lower shaft) x 27mm Outer Diameter, carbon fiber shaft I obtained online.
Dipped it when was far enough on the shaft with the shaft into cold water straight away in case the heat might affect the carbon tube.
I used the nylon of an old cutting board as the filler material for the bolt hole. and to give it the shape at that end.

If I had made the hole longer to accommodate that "stiffener" of that piece of plastic that is incorporated onto the coil cable at the connector end of the coil (I took it off) then it may have made this adapter too weak given the gauge of the PVC tube walls are thin.

If you obtain and use the upper and lower shafts of the Explorer, Quatro , Safari or Etrac and adhere or tape a thin plastic filler in place at the location as indicated one the picture(on one of the facets of the square upper shaft) of either one the aforementioned detectors , it will allow the upper shaft CTX3030 cam lock to hold it in place.

Length can be longer than 80mm but works perfectly with the thickness (1.5 mm) and width (10mm) of the strip, as indicated and also allows the easy connection of the coil.

David,
that looks really good, thanks for the great advice!
I think I'll end up using a pvc pipe like you did, seems to be the best and cheapest option.

Cheers!
