Homecoming!:detecting:

October is generally the month for all those Homecoming events...So a guy checks all the local schedules the night before and plans accordingly. This is not a traditional metal detecting type of excersize, its more of a run and gun before the Sun, with the detector along as another tool...

So early this morning I hit last nights local game with that nice nearly full (waning moon) providing the light. All a guy needs is a 30 gal plastic bag and a plan, leave the rig in the car, then just scurry around like a madman picking up the empty cans and hunting for other valuables like paper money by eye...I got 45 cans worth a dime each in about a half hour, it was still dark, so I went and cashed them in...hunting by eye gives a fellow a sense of where the action was going on, so thats where a fellow focuses with the rig once the sun comes up..trash laying all over the place tells a lot about the travel pattern...

By then it was predawn, and the frost was starting to settle on the grass, which makes a guys feet get soaked, so I fired up the 70 and ransacked a bunch of chip and gravel totlots, I was happy to see the one that always holds dollar coins didnt disapoint, got another one out of there..(I bet I've got 20 of those things out of just this one totlot in the past few years) and a few Q's there...bounced around from totlots to Highschools, hit the vending areas at the fields and sniped up a bunch more clad...grabbed up another 5 cans I missed, came out with over 7 bucks in coins..and even found a nickel in the parking lot ..had a good fun morning just out hunting whatever...also saw a few soccer tournaments getting underway, so I have another plan for tomorrow.

I have to think the F70 is the perfect tool for this kind of fast work, a guy runs a light sens and sweeps up freshies ready to spend without ever needing to dig a hole! Fast swinging, high coil, under the bleachers, whatever, it simply mops up consistently for an event like this...quick, clean and gone, without any other soul on the Planet knowing you were there...

I am guessing that based on all the traffic and trash, cherry picking for clad is the only way to go. Bet if one tried to sniff out a gold ring in that type of environment, they would not have much hair left ! Better chance of eyeballing a chain or earring.

Think I am gonna check out a few places tomorrow for a cherry picking run !!

I'm thinking there's a few metal detecting ghosts in my area, cuz when I get out to those sites say around 9am, there's not much left.

Always good reading Mud, keep it coming, and grats on a productive morning.

Old coin hunting and modern clad hunting, what a contrast. But, a lot to learn and goes into doing both well. Good hunting Mr Mud. HH jim tn

Robez, maybe you live near ghost-puppy.

Wow! Mud you find enough clad and other stuff to be able to buy more silver coins than most silver coin hunters can find.
