My buddy and I hunted around this old home site yesterday and another newer one up the hill and found a few things.
The first time we went here, we found part of a powder flask, a small eagle button, and an 1853 half dime.
Lots and lots of iron in the ground to clear out and also those pesky shotgun shells, but they sound so nice, you just gotta dig'em!
I found one flat button and managed to clean it up enough to read some lettering on the back, and am hoping someone can tell me something about the name on the back.
I drew out a sketch of the lettering and design since the photo didn't get all of the detail.
Judging by the items we found in the first trip, I'm guessing this site is around 1840-1850's.
This is the first site I have found where the chimney had 3 fireplaced in it.
I'm thinking about going back with a larger coil as the ground is pretty quiet now that the iron is out.
Maybe something deeper in there yet.
One item I can't ID is the thimble looking object.
I looks like something that slips over your finger, but I don't know what it is .... any ideas or guesses?
Thanks for looking,
Felix
