Home owners coverage on your coin collection

Hopefully everyone has a great collection worth lots of money. If that is the case, you might want to take a look at your homeowners insurance policy. There is usually only a hundred dollars coverage for money unless you have an endorsement to cover a coin collection. The same applies to jewelry, and in some cases, gun collections, etc.

It is not a bad idea to videotape the contents of your house every year of so. If you ever suffer a fire, burglary, tornado, hurricane or catastrophic loss, how do you remember all that you had? Keep the videotape in a separate location other than your house. You hope it won't ever happen to your but it happens to someone every day.

Ron, it is funny that you mentioned a coin collection. I retired last week and I have been doing things that I always said I would do when I had more time. I have been detecting for 11 years and I hunt hard. I have been putting all my silver in a divided plastic box and I keep a journal of what I found and where I found it. I just started on my silver dimes and I have over 350 of them. I got 100 of those little 2 by 2 coin displayer for a lack of a better word. I filled those up with the seated, barbers, and mercs from the teens and twenties. I really didn't realize just how many coins and tokens I had. Well anyway, I have enough coins to keep me busy for months. I am no coin grader, but I got to have a collection worth several thousand dollars. I wish I would have displayed them as I found them. This is the best hobby in the world. Where else can you make money while having fun? Great advice. R.L.
