Home on the range...

They are one beautiful massive animal. Very interesting to say the least. Do they breed the buffalo for meat or just to have the massive beasts for show? That's a great picture and I really like it.

hanging on the wall of someone's study. It would also make a great screen savor on a computer. I love this picture, you did good. Kelley (Texas) :)

Cool sepia flavored kind of shot! Hard to think they were nearly wiped out, yet they almost were..

Fun Fact: Bison kill more tourists in Yellowstone/yr than bears or any other wildlife...a guy cant appreciate their size until up close..cant imagine trying to kill one with a spear or arrow like in the old days...this Continent was crawling with them at one time, as you all know....I'd go with a spear, or set a fire and drive them off a cliff if a guy had to catch one!..

I used to live in SD, worked ranches there and in WY...the 'fairy circles' dust wallows of the massive bison herds were still visible out there in secluded areas on the prairie where I trapped coyote for the ranchers.....big market for Buff meat and hides now a days...the 777 buff ranch in SD is a large Bison farming concern, well known, supplied hoofstock and footage for "Dancing With Wolves" they did...I did my part with some hooped beaver skins, and other furry and locationally accurate sundries, but thats a different story...

The Wife and I like that movie on occasion, we shake our heads, it brings back both good and bad memories....we were piss poor and out there trying to survive....we know all those places and can remember the hides in the background I supplied brought home and skinned right there on the floor!...damn! What a flashback! Horrible in fact actually...delete, damn you, delete!

Thank you for the story mudpuppy. I've loved the bison for years and they're such an amazing animal which we all should fear. I am sorry it brought back bad memories but look at it this way. It made you the person that you are now. So many can't even hold a candle to what you've done in the past. Be proud of your accomplishments. I watch these shows like Yucon Men and Life Below Zero and am amazed how life is for people in Northern Alaska. It's so different than we have it here. Thank you again for your post.
