below are some pictures of a sand scoop i made. i couldnt see spending so much money on something i could make so here it is. (hope the pictures work :nerd:). its made out of aluminum except the 4 screws that hold on the bottom of the basket and the one bolt that holds the handle on. i also put a foam grip on it. it weighs about 1.5lbs. the basket is 5 1/2"wide x 15" long (including the scoop edge) length is 53"tip to tip. the holes drilled into it are 9/16" on the sides and 3/8" on the bottom.

the only thing im not sure about camparing mine to others is the angle of the handle. i havent used it yet so i dont know if the current angle is good or not. let me know what you think. sorry about the poor quality of the photos,my camera sucks:thumbdown:

Great scoop, bad handel angle, when you are standing up the angle of the scoop should be downward but not as much as yours, let me see if I can find a photo, here ya go, Ive made a few also, son likes to break at least 3 a summer.

about the angle of the shaft/handle. The scoop looks good but at that angle you'll have to lower it to below your knees or more just to begin bringing it up again. Can't have too much of an angle or you'll be killing your back with nothing to show for it. A little mod on that and I think you'll have a great scoop. Good luck.

thats what i was thinking, the angled tube was already welded to the basket when i started turning it into a scoop so i went with it. but i think if i cut off the tube before it makes that bend and re-attach the handle to that ill have a scoop that looks more conventional. that would be an easy fix that i can finish in just a few minutes.

My two cents worth, I would definitely add a brace from the back of the scoop to the handle, or you will break the weld at the scoop do to flexing when you put pressure on it. Straiten the handle back out the way you show with the red mark in your first pic. Looks like it will get you gold, and that is all that counts. HH
