holy grail of mercs

I hit a new curb strip today. this area has been producing a lot of silver lately. I started out finding the 51 rosie almost immediately then a few wheats and memorials. Then came the35 wash and not 10 feet away next to the curb I got a 12-44 at 5 inches . dug it up and seen the merc. I could make out the 1916 on the front and a mint mark on the back. I've found 5 1916s this year 3 with s mint marks so my expectations weren't real high. but you still get that flutter. went over to the truck and washed it off and there was the D. 20 years and finally there it was. That ended the hunt for the day

Congrats Dude!

Nice find, Do you notice the back looks a lot more wore than the front does as on the front you still see the rim plain while the back it is wore off and much more.
Does anyone notice that too and any explanation why this happens.

Congrats on the super find, even though it is worn I would send it in to be graded and certified.

Awesome! Now getting all the other dates will be nothing but a breeze now that you
Got the hard one out of the way. What a feeling that's gotta be.
Thanks for sharing

Congratulations Ron, nice find! There are coin grading company's who will slab the coin for a fee. Maybe submit the coin to W&E Magazine for the best finds of the year, just a thought its pretty simple to have a decent coin dealer give an approximate value.
A few years ago I let it my best find out of my hands to be graded, it came back just as I thought in one piece and graded, the same graded dealer told me it was f12
Enjoy the story and bragging rights! good luck and don't sell it! I know a guy here, you would recognise him, no need to mention by name, but in tough finical times he sold the valuable coin and regrets it every day!
