Hoarding Cu cents...

New member
...Okay, who here is actually separating and hoarding copper cents?

I used to, I then figured out that if I had 20,000 pennies, put a $$$ factor on my rolling time, I would be better off to NOT hoard them.

I reckon most things similarly, John. After all is said and done, there isnt much of a reason to hang onto them as special.

I don't hoard copper pennies, but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea. They are being taken out of circulation.Just think if we would have hoarded silver coin in the mid sixties.I do keep my wheat pennies. HH Ron

...Again, I doubt the value will ever escalate to the point where it would do to store the things. I dont suppose it would hurt, of course. After all the Packrat's Motto could apply here: "You Never Know."

As for wheats, every detecorist hoards them.

Dave no packrats here, but I did see a story on the TV news about an epidimic of copper theives stealing cooper cables and fixtures from business buildings to scrap out for cash. This may indicate the cooper value is up. Ron

...Or that thieves will steal whatever will turn a bit of cash. I used to do it when I was kid - anything metal was fair game and good for beer money. I watched an episode of COPS not long ago and a thief had broken into a place - only to and steal the water heater.

Dave these guys were stealing copper tubing from AC units spoiling meats from mom and pop stores in Detroit.I never took anything that wasn't mine, even when I was a kid,too busy working. At fourteen I cut the grass and raked underneath the bleachers Saturday mornings after the high school foot ball game.Finding money underneath these bleachers is what got me started treasure hunting. Later Ron

I confess to being less than a stellar citizen when I was young. You didnt see me at any meetings of the Junior Leaders of America or running a paper route.
I eventually cleaned up my act and got real. But for a time, one of our favorite tricks was to find an old metal drum and fill it with water - when it got to the recycling center, it was pretty heavy.

Dave,I have no doubt that your one of the good guys.Excuse me I have to go to the polls hold my nose flip coin and vote. The invisable American. Later Ron
