Some of those screws are tempered steel rather than soft iron and sound very good on a lot of machines. At least with the E-Trac/Explorers we do not have those pesky crown caps sounding and IDing as quarters
If I am unsure about a high signal, I find that switching to quick mask with a wide open screen ususally tells me quick if it is iron or not. The cursor will move to the bottom right of the screen on iron targets. If it is a coin it generally stays in the top half of the screen.
As a way to verify, has anyone found that whole beverage cans ping as quarters 12-46/47? I've learned that screwcaps are 12-31, 12-37, 12-41, but I can't count how many beverage cans I have dug that I thought were quarters. I always dig'en though!

If you suspect a beverage can is under the coil, lift the coil up off of the ground a little bit at a time. If your still getting a signal with the coil raised several inches, most likely it's a can. Also, a full size can will give you an "extended" signal response that is much longer then a quarter.
