This school isn't very old ... maybe built in the 40's? Got a silver quarter last week. Today tried another side of the school on a hill that is now shaded by trees and the grass doesn't grow well and the rain wash dirt down off the hill. 9 wheats (35, 41, 42, 42, 44, 44-D?, 45, 52-S?, 52-D) a 39 dime, a doll? silver spoon, and $1.28 in clad. Found one of the wheats on top of the ground were the rain had washed the soil off of it. The back of the spoon says 'STERLING', but it has two corroded spots on it - is that actually silver ? or silver plate?
Thanks, Neil

Thank you GR. I know my finds pale in comparison to the majority of other posters here, some of that is not having the experience of others here, and some may be because of the area I live. I live in a college town with alot of history, but it is a very liberal and progressive town - I find old fairgrounds, race tracks, schools, parks, and etc on very old maps, but nearly all of these places now have cement parking lots or newer buildings on top of them. They even changed the course of the river years years ago. When I started detecting I contacted the university to ask if they had an official policy about it. They told me they would need to investigate, and about 3 days later I got notified that they could not find anything to prohibit me from using a detector on their property, but they also said that I could not disturb the soil in any matter. So, there went a very large section of prime area to detect. I also asked the city police about city property, and they said no problem. So I mostly hunt the city schools and parks - but most of these get torn up and redone pretty often. I rarely hunt homes in the city - I only ask people that I know through work, friends, etc, and I bet 9 of 10 flat out say no. Many of these are people that have been either invited to my home or they have invited me to their home at some point. I can't image what the rate would be if I asked complete strangers ...

It doesn't matter how old that School is, pound that place! At least there is Silver there and your diggin' Older Coins along with some Bonus Clad. Nice Spoon also. If it says Sterling on it, then it's Silver and Not Silver Plated. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.
