Oldest coins 1961 and 1964 cents
And BTW...I take all posts with a grain of salt, but to save some folks some time...Not everyone lives in an area with tons of old coins and jewelry...I am NOT in this hobby to get rich, and NOT in it to bring home 1700 and 1800 coins every time I go out.
If I wanted to get rich, I picked the WRONG hobby, and the WRONG area to live in...I do this for the pure enjoyment of being outside and never knowing WHAT might be waiting for my coil.

HH,

I'm with you. With all the tension of just making a living and doing daily tasks, getting out with my detector is one of the most relaxing and centering things I can do for myself. Every time I go out....come back with a clean and fresh perspective it seems....and good finds just add to it all.

Sometimes it's a great pleasure just to squeeze a decent signal or two from a place you and others have hit over and over again and know your still "one" with your machine . I also enjoy playing peek-a-boo with the gophers who on occasions have made some nice finds possible .

I'm with you guys, detecting for the the enjoyment and a bit of adventure. Shut out the hassles part of day to day life.
The oldest coin I've found is an 1832 Large Cent. Just barely can make the date out. Pitted and discolored from being buried for who knows how long, maybe 150 years? Has no value to anyone but me. "EnRICHed" my spirits is all.
I'm sure most of us have had similar finds and feel the same way.;)

While I like detecting and it quenches a certain need, if I come home without finding something interesting I wonder why I bothered. I can't justify the wasted time, gas, batteries, and put miles on my car ...not to mention my aching back and knees. I've got dirty hands and equipment, bug bites (spray is a last resort). Then come home to a house with projects that should have been done in the time I was gone. I start feeling guilty about the wasted life I lead and money spent with nothing to show for it.

The next nice day I'm back out swinging...hehe

Haha!! You had me going there Ism!! Trying to think of a "pep" talk for you.
The thing is ...i've felt the same way..but heck!..like you, right back at it!!

Hey We all want to find that jackpot treasure, but you may just spend your whole life doing it...I go out with NO expectations...That way I am not dissapointed...lol

HH,

Hi to all ,it has been some time that I posted anything.
I just had to say this, I did get rich with the sport of metal detecting.
I found a small ring in the sand box for a girl that was giving to her before her mother passed a way.
Seeing that girl cry with joy make me very rich in heart.
This is to me is the best sport in the WORLD.
Yes my back, arm, legs and hands pay the price but it is worth it.
I love dirtfishing.

Right on the mark GGG ! In the area I live/hunt, the natural beauty of the scenery is usually enough for me to consider every hunt a successful "treasure" hunt. Sometimes I even get too distracted from the sights to properly concentrate on my detecting, that's when I pull out the thermos and have a coffee break and remember to be sincerely thankful for everything (except for bottlecaps & pulltabs). Hopefully you're all in locations that enables you to reap all the treasures that are out there everyday for the "taking" also.

Yup....some places you go metal detecting becomes an excuse just to be at an incredible spot. There are times where my wife comes with me and after a good stretch, I end up just laying on a blanket with her and soaking it all in. Funny thing is she has no interest in the metal detecting part, but loves to clean and sort all my finds. (Tootsie Toys and costume jewelry are her favorite.....a good coin makes her just yawn?)
