Hit The 1700's Today!!!

Got out today on my lunchbreak and hit my favorite spot. It is an old field that used to have a house and barn which dates back to at least the 1800's. The house and barn were torn down in the early 1980's. This spot has given up lots of nice finds. Today it gave up the nicest find yet. A 1741 George II Hibernia Copper!! This coin was down around 8 or 9 inches. Stuck my Lesche in the hole afterwards and only half the handle was sticking out of the hole. The mighty Cibola hit it pretty good for how deep it was. Got a nice deep repeatable signal in two directions and had no doubt about digging it. Man I love my Tesoro!!! I didn't get a chance to really rinse it off at work until 4pm. I was thinking it was a Large Cent until the dirt came off and could read HIBERNIA and more detail started to appear. All I did to clean it was rinse it under water. I'm not gonna clean anymore at this point. Gonna leave it as is.

Thanks! I'm in Pennsylvania. Just west of Philly. Lots of history around here for sure.

still waiting to get to the 1700's,,,,,,,,,, good for you !!!!!

Nice large cent, even though it is a K/G copper, there might be some flowing hair American colonial large cents around your area .......Nice find:thumbup:

Thanks! It's actually 270 years old. I couldn't even imagine finding a 1600's era coin. You never know what you are gonna dig up next...lol. The Irish King George II half penny blew me away.

Nice work Qball! Welcome to the 1700 club! Once you clean it, rub a little olive oil on it. It really brings out detail.
Excellent find my friend, congratulations!
