Hit Some Lakes

Metal Magnet

New member
Well, ran around to 4 different lakes with next to nothing to show for it. these are state park lakes, so i figured they have probably been hit pretty well. i was wading out to my chest at the deepest locations.

im curious what type of spots, water wise, are most productive? i would guess that local, defunct swimming holes would be good. i'm all ears b/se i am really hankerin for some gold.

Metal magnet, I also like hunting lakes. I have found that most often the places untouched are the ones you need a boat to get to. I was trying a lake park last week with lots of luck. Change was everywhere. I only had three hrs so only covered 1/3 of park. No rings, all clad, but I'm going back this week after the swimmers are gone. Don't forget to check the dry sand too. I found the lakes state park to be the best place to hunt, because there's vary little pull tabs, twist top and trash. Only the good stuff. Sand bars are good places to check, but be ready to discriminate a lot of trash. I made a sand scoop that works good as its difficult to hunt without it. Check out YouTube for home made sand scoop. You can also buy a good one on ebay for around $200. if you don't already have one. If your local, I would love someone to water hunt with. It takes days to clear a sand bar. Good luck with your water hunts. It's much harder, but the rewards can be gratifying.

You guys are lucky! In GA, state parks are off limits to metal detectors. There is one about 20 miles from me that has a huge swimming area, and I'm quite sure it is just full of gold! I had thought about going to the park ranger and offering to 'clean up' the beach area for him, just to do my part for the community!

I must also say that i have a renewed respect for any surf hunters. I had a hard enough time getting targets and a quiet lake. I'm sure I will get better, but still. Those surf hunters typically have to get the item on the first try or lose it.

I have hit a creek, but it didn't produce. I will probably hit some more near me as they were pretty heavily traveled back in the day.
