Hit an old cellar hole

Hit an old celler and found tons of goodies. A couple of wheaties, some Indian Heads, Barber Quarter, Liberty Nickel, and what I think is an early Large Cent, probably 1809-1816, by the way it is worn.

Good catch there.. Never know what other goodies might be
lurking in that thing. Usually cellers were full of all
kinds of junk.. Or at least if it was like my grandmothers
in rural OK... She used hers to store lots of home canned
veggies, and fruit, etc. Back in her day, most all of that
stuff they ate, she canned. They rarely bought store bought
stuff. But it would also have old farming parts, hoes, etc.
The usual stuff you might see in a garage these days.
I'm sure they had to use it for storms at times..
I remember hers would always have black widow spiders in
it. Every canning season she would have to get a broom and
swat and kill them all before she started putting away all
the canned stuff. Her celler was the kind that was mostly
underground, but had slanted tilting doors that covered
the top. You pulled them back to go in.. I hardly see cellers
these days.. Ditto for basements.. They don't have em down
here on the gulf coast, except for a few exceptions.

That's some good stuff there camman ! I say to alot of my friends that the out of the way places are the way to go. The schools and places like that are ok but those old finds are the best ones.

Actually, anyone who is not using Google Earth is crazy. I use it in conjuntion with a hand held GPS device which I picked up for about $100. Found another bunch of foundations yesterday, but had the wrong coil and wasn't ready for all of the trash.

I will get back to the one in the pic with hedge trimmers. I got all scratched up by overgrown thorns, and couldnt swing the coil in some spots. All the coins are from a 5'x8' spot near the cellar holes. Must have been either the outhouse or a place where some type of commerce took place.

Notice the modern suburban sprawl all around the site.
Awesome finds. Did you dig them out of the cellar or around it?Thanks-Mark
MOst of your finds will be on the outer perimeter, near where an entrance was. Same thing 2 weeks ago with my 1836 Large Cent.
