Season 1 episoiode 4 they have two metal detecting guys on hunting for treasure with a minelab and a unit from germany that look like a square of pvc. But i dont know about the metal detecting guys seem a little fishy to me the way they are using the detector also he said something about hearing gold through stone down like 4 feet .Yes it is a interesting show.

Yeah it is an interesting show but the outcome was predictable. IMO those so-called metal detecting 'experts' struck me as little more than rookies.
In the last episode they did find a strange few hundred year old Spanish coin in the swamp.

Far as the money pit itself mystery, i don't know about that.
I seriously doubt pirates of the day could engineer that deep of a shaft and with deep flooding booby traps. Those flooding booby traps could just be natural underground water channels. The shaft could of been dug at a time when water levels were much lower than today.
And if someone did bury something there, why would they leave a block and tackle for anyone to see? And would the tree above the money pit even be big enough to support that winch and load of treasure hundreds of years ago? Then there's that stone found with strange writing on it which disappeared!!!

My guess is that someone dug that pit on a hunch that treasure was buried there maybe a couple hundred years ago. Who knows if they found anything.
Why would pirates go through all that trouble to bury their treasure so deep?

Lot of things don't make sense but thats why they call it a mystery i guess.

Anyhow, I hope the History Channel continues the series next season.

the one i saw they found an old coin with an 8 on it. they said it was spanish and later they were calling it a piece of 8. don't know if they were serious or joking.

I believe it was a Spanish pirate coin. Seem to remember them saying it was made of copper.
Here's a similar one but also seem to remember the '8' was larger on the coin they found, maybe not.
