Historic Site--Dated Flat Button?

I have permission to explore a private property that once housed a tavern and hotel. These structures were adjacent to the town center and just a stones through from the local church. The town was leveled by Sherman's troops on their march to Charleston and for the most part, nothing has been rebuilt. While searching, I received numerous metallic hits--a lot of junk and rusty, indescribable crap. My good signals included the 3-ringer, a spent rimfire bullet case--headstamped with an H and a flat button.

Being new to the CW scene, I was curious about the button (pic)--it's dated and the stamp reads 171? DOUBLE. There are no markings on the front. Could this be an artifact from and earlier era--or is it a trade button, seeing multiple uses.

The rimfire bullet casing is a tad over 1/2" in length--any history?

I'll continue my search and try to include adjoining properties, knowing that thousands of troops from both sides transversed the area.:detecting:

Hi. Look a little more closely and you'll see "Double Gilt", a common backmark on that period of English made flatbuttons. Cool find!
