Historic recovery made at DIV XI this past weekend......

A Civil War soldiers coin purse was recovered at DIV this past weekend and it is literally bulging with coins. The recovery was made close to the 2nd Corps hospital site in the 8' X 10' foundation of a winter hut between two rocks.

I feel pretty sure that the soldier was sick and died at the site during the winter of 1863/64 and left his most prized possession behind. The "upacking" of the coinpurse was done yesterday after going through an extensive preservation process by the owner who has shown the great respect for the relic that it deserves.

The "upacking" will be shown over several days on YouTube video's.

Wow, nice find! Even has some of the leather still attached. I see copper and silver; any gold by chance? BTW, where was DIV this year? I've always wanted to try and secure a spot in the event but don't know the process. I understand it's hard to participate and there's a waiting list. Any suggestions?
