Historic Indian Site

I returned to the Historic Indian site this morning and found a Kettle scrap gorget, muskett balls, trade bead (on the surface) along with some type of an awl and msc forged nails and iron. Anyone seen this type of an awl?? If so can you give me a time frame and orign?? Thanks, Rob
 
The awl? looks like it was made from a horse shoe. Are the holes in it square? As far as a time frame I don't have a clue...d2
 
Yes, the holes are square or rectangle. Doesn't really look like it was made from a horse shoe, but I have no idea what the holes are for. Still comes to a sharp point on one end. Thanks for your input. Rob
