Historic Coin Found Today:hot:

Today I found a 1964 quarter in the front yard of an old house. For those of you who don't know, 1964 was the last year that quarters were made from silver planchets. So, this could possibly be the very last 1964 quarter ever made. Which would make it historic. And worth a lot of money. I'll let you know what I found out.

I also found about 2 bucks between a soccer field and an easement. And a foreign, 1980, Canada penny.

Hey

I'm going to a big coin show in Chattanooga saturday. I will ask if that was the last silver quarter. I will let you know what they say. ;)
Re: I paid $50 for the quarter I have. They told me it was the last one made!!!
"There's a sucker born every minute" is a phrase often credited to P.T. Barnum
I'll let you have my real, one and only, "last 1964 quarter ever made" for the low sum of $199.99
How will you know if it was the very last quarter made in 1964. They only minted several million. :)

Bill
560,390,585 to be exact Bill. Knowing my luck mine is #560,390,584

I think you could carbon date it. I have a theory to see if indeed your coin was the last struck. I would tend to think that as the machine was gearing down to the last coin, the strike pressure would be slightly different than the other coins up to that point. Do you see it yet??? OK, since the pressure was less on the last coin, the strike is not as sharp as the others, are you still with me??? NOW, if we can find the original mold we could put the coin in it and use computers and carbon dating to actually determine if indeed you have the last and most valuable 64 silver coin made!!!! (LOL):crylol:

I thought 1-9-6-4 meant it was the one thousand , nine hundred and sixty fourth quater ever made:)
That is an oldie. Looks like late 1800's maybe turn of the century. My house is 100 years old this year.

Bill
Mines a little over 80. It was moved here in the 1960's. It doesn't look it, it has been stuccoed.
