Hipmount bag - not impressive...

Hi All

I bought a Sov Elite Hipmount bag for 35.00 plus postage.
Not impressed.. The cover is clear plastic - way above the controls and hard to close. Big slot down back - hard to close and seal out salt air.
Intended for mounting on search shaft.
I will have to seriously modify it to make it usable.
Anyone have any comments on this?
I find it hard to believe that Minelab can make quality metal detectors and then make accessories of such poor quality!
any comments?

I'm not surprised.

I use the new style bag when I have the control box mounted but when hipmounting I use my old Sovereign bag or SunRay leather bag. This is my Advantage mounted on a Whites straight rod and I use the same setup with the Elite.

I like mine for use while the control box is on the shaft. The big slit is for you when mount it on the shaft so it will fit on the control box while it is mounted on the shaft. The clear plastic window is on it so you can see what you setting are set at without opening the flap up, but you have to to adjust the controls. There is a wide Velcro strip that fits on it at where the big slit was when you want to hip mount and has the belt loop made right on it too. Then there is the strap that come with it too that will hook into the plastic rings if you want to chest mount it or side mount it if you don't want to hip mount it, chest mount it or shaft mount it. I think Minelab was thinking of every possible way to mount the control box.
I have used mine on my GT shaft mounted and been caught in some good rain and the control box never got wet, but if you are using it for beach hunting where you are in water and may drop it I can see where it may not work by shaft mounting it, but chest mounting may be the answer for you. If you are worried about salt water then maybe you could put it in a plastic bag too before you use the new style hip mount bag to make sure of the salt spray.
