Hip mounting excal

John(Tx)

New member
I've been using a plugger shaft for years and it has worked great. Last couple of months the arthritis on my right shoulder has been acting up and gotten too uncomfortable to hunt this way. Thinking about hip mounting my excal but was wondering if hip mounting would be better that just putting the excal behind me on my lower back, have you guys tied do this? Thanks and good hunting. John

John, there is only one way to find out, you are just going to have to give it a try. I personally hip mounted from day two with the excal and until recently, that was the way I liked it but I ran into hand and elbow problems. I then added an extension to my shaft to put the controls back behind my elbow. This appears to balance things for me and I may stick with that method for now.

A simple way to test the hip mount is to use a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe, drill some holes in it to match the controls and use some nylon bolts and wing nuts to attach the controls to a nylon web belt (Harbor Freight has a good cheap one). Using it attached to the belt allows you to wear the controls on your hip, behind your back or slung over your shoulder... One of those ways might work for you but only you will know for sure.

Good luck and I hope you can solve your problems without having to slow down any....

PVC is the way to go! Check this out! Simple and it works. I tape the cable to the shaft and let the slack hang for swinging. SonnyFl
