My Birch Eng Hip Mount arrived in the UK today from the good old <IMG SRC="/forums/images/flag.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT="USA">.Quite impressed now its assembled.
I will try it out tomorrow the weight reduction is significant.
Thanks to the couple of guys over there that made up my mind for me to buy one.
Keep Swinging,
Jerry, Bristol.UK.

Be interested to find out how you got on with it. Always hip mounted my Sovereign (now my back-up machine) otherwise I got "tennis elbow"!! Bit anxious my Expplorer will give the same problem, particularly on a whole days searching. Who supplied it and at what cost please?
Mike, Plymouth, UK

Hi Mike, its works ok but takes a while to adjust to having an extra wire from the control box to the machines replacement handle.
The weight reduction is very noticeable and we have just had 2 days swinging on the Exmouth area beaches.
One problem and I have just E-Mailed Birch for their views.
In the heavy rain of the last 2 days I had water soak into the foam insert where the wire connect at the contol box head.
Perhaps our friends on this site can have an input to this problem.
I think I have the answer but will wait first to see what the longer term users have to say.
Keep swinging.

Hi Jerry,
I just read your other post and sent you a email about it. Then I read this post and found out more about the problem. The foam seal we use is a "closed cell" foam and should not absorb water. The purpose of the foam is to keep dust and dirt out so the Explorer can be put back to factory original (clean) condition if it should need warranty work. The connector that protrudes through the seal is located below the meter electronics. If any water should get past that seal, there is a secondary seal behind it that is factory installed. If water should get behind the factory seal it would go into the battery compartment which is not sealed anyway. (Water can enter the battery compartment under the armrest or through the battery compartment seam). Email me and we will try to come up with a solution, but the truth is, the Explorer was never designed to be used in the rain. Sooner or later, water will get into the control box whether you have a Hip Mount Kit or not.

Hi all,
I have solved the problems of water creeping into the control box past the foam and with the use of a good quality RTV,which I also used to seal the small gap where the conversion handle enter the top minelab box section this also keeps the conector plugs dry.
Over here we can buy what looks like 10mm electrical insulating tape but its rubber based and can be streched and formed to suit any size and shape, this enabled me to cacoon the upper exposed electrical conection and its immediate wiring very neatly and Iam more water proof than the original pruduct.
Well done Birch Engineering for a fine invention my tennis elbow is on the mend without the extra stress and I can keep swinging my beloved Explorer.
