Hip-mount kit or swinging harness?

Dirt Poor

New member
What's up, folks? I've been digging for years and years, but old "arther" has put alot of aches and pains in my bones. I recently aquired the XLT model, but I know that normal usage will be tough. Got too good a deal to pass the machine up, so I was wondering if any of y'all used a hip-kit or one of those swinging shoulder harnesses, and which would be best. Thanks for any help.

When using the Swingy Thingy the weight of the detector should all be held by the bungee which is clipped into the middle of your chest from the over shoulder harness. If you feel any strain lifting or pushing down, reach down and adjust the length just an inch or so. An inch makes a world of difference. I get so keyed in on the hunt that I forget I am straining until I feel it and then I adjust. You kind of guide and steer the shaft with the ST. If you are doing more, you don't have it adjusted correctly.
I hooked the ST onto my belt that I take with all my tools. Not a good idea. Your belt will keep working it's way up as the day goes on and it will be less efficient. Do use the suspender type clip and hook it just above your left pocket. Unless you give yourself a major wedgy, the shoulder strap won't be changing postion on you and you are set. I leave mine all hooked up when I get on my knees to dig. No need to disconnect it if you don't want to. And...when you need to pick your nose or scratch your ??? the tector will just hang there waiting to get back at at. Enjoy. It's a good accessory. Jim

Thank y'all for the posts! Hey, Grumpy, I got mine in the mail from Kellyco today. Thanks for the helpful tips on using it. Gotta cut firewood tomorrow and do some things around here, but I'm gonna be trying out the ST soon.

The items I use is the detachable strap from a shoulder bag and a bungi cord.
You put the strap on your left or right shoulder which ever more. comfortable then downwards across chest and back and hook together then hook the bungi cord to the strap and to your detector. I have a serious bad back and this works perfect!!! The bungi cord I use is about 16 inches long. It really depends on your height. The elastisity in the cord also helps with uneven ground and the best of it/ I get acouple more hours detecting. I don't have a computer I have a blackberry so if anyone wants pictures Ithink I can email them. Dig Deep and have fun.
