Highland Station.....North Truro Cape Cod Massachusetts

Visiting the Cape last week, trying to visit the locations, my Father was Stationed at while in the Coast Guard. Most were on the Cape,so they are within a 50 mile area. This is Highland Light. According to my Fathers Service records,he was stationed here from 1933 to 1936. The whole House and Light were moved to the present location back from the dunes, due to corrosion over the years. As you see,the rock was the original location. The cliffs are sand, and are pretty steep.I would guess, thats about a 100 foot drop! In the last photo, that "stick" is a rather large log! It wasn't far from here that they located the Pirate Ship "Whydah" about 20 yrs ago,and salvaged a lot of artifacts, including the ships bell. The whole grounds, are surrounded by a golf course now. The light is open for visitors during the Summer season. I love the shot of the building(s) structure from where that rock sits. The winding road going in, the old rail fence and that beautiful beach with the cliffs. Man........curl up in that place for a fall season with a dozen good books and no outside world.:beers:
