High Trash Area Coils

I have the xterra 50. The machine is great. However I am having trouble in high trash areas. I am using the 7.5 kHz concentric. What is the best coil I can use for these areas? I do have the 6" 18 kHz coil however I have not tried it much. Any hints and tips would be appreciated for hunting in these areas.

Go slow and isolate your targets from each other in doing so, reduce your sens so you dont get target overlap from a too high sensitivity. Or as Digger on this forum suggests in areas like that try raising your coil a bit when using a concentric to utilise the cone shaped field.

Welcome back BT,have you been that busy digging nuggets, or testing out the new X-Terras. Good to see you back on the air. HH.

I would definately mount that 6" coil and work slow. Run 3-4 Tones and listen for the good tones mixed in with the iron drones. The small coil will see a lot less ground than the stock coil and make it easier to concentrate. Trashy areas are tough to detect and lots of people just give up on them, so there could be some good targets that others missed. Good luck, Ron

Nug !
Not much posting, but plenty of reading.
I figure I'll keep my mouth shut unless I've got something useful to say, which with my limited experience doesn't happen too often.
Going to WA next week on business, hope to find the time to ping some yella metal out Yalgoo or Mt Magnet way.
I'll definitely do a post if I find anything.

Cheers !

Nah no testing. Have found some nice gold, no biggies but cant complain. I tried to use the new scanner where I am but damn this thing is crazy.
Last one they had was easy and the pics come out A1, why they needed to change has me beat.
Wanted to show a pic of a 53oz bit my boss's friend found and some of the gold I have got recently with the 7o.
Maybe im just dumb or something, ill give it a another whirl on the weekend.

Thanks for the info guys. The reason I have' not tried the 6" coil much is it is 18khz..... And I thought it would not be as good as the 7khz at finding coins...... Am I confuzzled here? Also in air test I have done it does not seem to go as deep either.

Hey Tater,
I have the 6"DD HF and it has very good depth. I haven't used the MF version but yesterday I found my 5th silver dime at a local Church I've been hunting that was built in the 1950's. This dime was a '57 Rosie and it was 6 1/2" deep with a soft repeatable tone that I could still hear with the coil held 2" higher over the target. That's the 2nd silver dime I found with the 6"DD HF, the other 3 I found with the stock coil in the 7" depth zone. I have been measuring my finds to see how the 6" compares to the stock coil, I have been very pleased with this small coil. HH John
