High tone Vaquero vs Compadre tone...

REVIER

Well-known member
People ask about the high tone, low tone thing on the Cibola and Vaquero from time to time, but there are not many videos that show this difference.
I made this quick video, in the dark apparently, and compared the Vaq and my Compadre.

A little cross-talk between the two since they were in close proximity, but this will give you an idea if you are curious.

Me, I got the high tone Vaq because I heard it was better for older ears, but I seem to hear both fine, and there are no advantages for me as far as I can tell.

I kinda like the high tone sound of that Vaquero. might be interesting to get mine changed to high tone and try it. Thanks for the video showing the difference.

The Vaq and Cibola low tones are the same...the Silver and Compadre are a little higher and also the same...The high tone Tesoro's are way high.

Not sure about the others, but I know the Golden has 4 tones.

Back in '83 when I switched over to the Tesoro Inca and started selling Tesoro's, I found it was pleasant to use. One reason was they had a larger speaker and they barked a louder bark .. but when I got the 'original' Silver Sabre I started using it a bit more.

The Inca had an Audio Frequency of 375 Hz, but the original Silver Sabre was 450 Hz. The higher pitch audio just sounded better and I could hear subtle responses better.

As an example, after checking the Tesoro website, here are a few of the Audio Frequency ratings they showed for some of my favorite models:

Bandido and Bandido II .. 625 Hz

Silver Sabre II ... 750 Hz

Silver Sabre

Monte the Compadre and Bandido II uMAX can't both be 630 Hz. The Bandido II uMax might be, but the Compadre is closer to 380 Hz.

The Bandido II Umax pitch sounds exactly like a high tone Vaquero does. Well, according to my ears it does.

There are some typos in Tesoro's literature that is presently being corrected.

290 Hz does not sound good to my ears, but 630 Hz makes them ring. Something a tad higher pitched than the Compadre would be perfect for my ears.

Remember Tabman, that is from my Ipad program. I do not know how accurate that program is.

Right. I'm not certain about the exact Hz, but I do know for certain from listening that the Compadre and Bandido II uMax are nowhere near close in Hz even though they're listed as having the same Hz.

Tesoro and all other manufacturers have had their problems. In this case, I just wanted to use the quotes from what i read on their website. The high-tone Vaquero is closer to the nice Bandido II

What I found very interesting is the fact that not ALL older ears hear high tones better than low tones ........A few of my older friends have proved that point ......At 60 yrs young , I hear high tones better ....I have friends in their 60's and 70's that hear low tones better and the high tones sound muffled to them .....?????........We're all wired a little differently ....Jim

I'm a mid-high tone kinda of guy.:)

It looks like I'm going to have to end up trading my super hot Bandido II uMax. The high pitch makes my ears ring and there's no way to change the pitch.

The high-tone Vaquero also makes my ears ring and the regular tone is too low, but I think I can get use to it though. I'm taking it out on another hunt with it's new 5.75 coil.

I wish I had a list of all the Tesoro detectors listing accurately their Hz

The highest tone of any of the Tesoros I have is on my SS

Ever since I started taking different pills since having stents placed in my heart my hearing is 10 times better than I actually wished it was. I can lay in bed with a pillow over my head and hear my wife running in the kitchen sink, sounds as loud as a river roaring. Can't listen to the radio anymore because no matter how low I turn the volume, it is still too loud, and worse of all I have constant ringing in my ears. So with me I rather have a low tone detector, some call the sounds of a Cibola comparable to what a duck sounds like. But to me I really like the C's sound better than any high pitched detector. Guess everyone's hearing is different and so is their preference to tones and even headphones. We are fourtunate that Tesoro makes great detectors and that some of them can be ordered with either a low or high tone.

I've had a couple of stents also, but didn't do anything to or for my hearing.

Not saying the stents themselves has anything to do with my hearing, but I think that all the aspirin and plavix/ blood thinners, cholesterol and high blood pressure pills that I have been taking the last 4 years or so has affected my hearing. Doc says no but I don't buy it.

To bad Tesoro doesn't take the hint and put a programable tone switches behind the battery compartment for people to be able adjust themselves, with all the hearing issues people have it would be a great enhancement for their MDer line.

I like how the Tejon has an adjustable tone, nice feature. Sorry to cut in on your thread REVIER. Enough about me and my thoughts, I got off topic, lets get back to REVIER's High tone Vaquero vs Compadre tone....
