High Power Lines?

The Ex II was acting up tonight. Threshold would not stabilize ans crosshair was jumping all over the place, strange sounding threshold. There was a high voltage transformer on a pole about 60' away. Anyone seen this before?

Hey Chuck,
Yes I have. I went to a park I've never been before. I turned on my XS1 and was horrified to find that my threshold was really wavy and broken no matter where I put my threshold. I looked around and saw no power lines. I walked out of the area and my machine started working just fine. I walked into the area and the machine went crazy again. I hit the noisecancel button and waited until the XS was done checking all the 11 channels to see which one was the least noisy. After the XS was done, the machine begin to work perfectly. I guess there was an underground powerline somewhere. After you do your noisecancel procedure, you may still get a small amount of interference if your manual sensitivity is super high. For example, in my back yard, I had my SEN = 30 and I was getting a little bit of interference that sounded like faint coin hits. I did the noisecancel and it did not change the problem. I turned my MANUAL SEN (not auto SEN) down from 30 to 27 and the problem went away.
Also if you are hunting nearby another detector guy, you may get a bunch of interference from his machine and he may be getting interference from you. Hit the NOISECANCEL button and the both of you will be able to run interference-free.

Not to mention the electronic "Invisible Fence" . Those underground electronic wires designed to confine a dog to a yard wreck havoc to the detector electronics for hundreds of feet around the yard and you'll never know where it is coming from since the wires are underground.
