High/Low Tones

Rob ohio said:
Being rather new to Tesoro, what is the purpose and benefits of the tone modification?

Rob
Depending on your hearing response, for some , the low is easier to hear well, for others, the high is better.
Have your ears tested to find out where the dropouts are and I can tell you which tone will be easier to hear.
I still haven't seen a single video featuring both tones, but if you look around, there are some examples of both tones.
After being exposed to live music for over a decade, my hearing has significant dropouts at around 4K and the standard tone works well for me. I wouldn't want to go higher unless I had worse dropouts in the mid (vocal) range.
Also, just like beer, I think it's a matter of taste or preference.
Don't lose any sleep over it.
Hope this helps!

I posted this last November.
Here it is again.

I have a high tone Vaq, and a low tone Compadre...both seem fine to me.
I read that the high tones are easier for older ears to hear so that's why I ordered the Vaq with the high tone.

Both of those tones are higher than the stock C/V.

Which one does it sound like after a mod?
If Tesoro would send me a diagram, I would be happy to make a demo.

I may be the only one that has ever done this, I had my Vaquero changed from a 'high tone' to a 'low tone'. I couldn't stand to hear that high pitched sound anymore. Also it seems like the lower tone carries more target ID info.

I agree with tabman, for some people the low tone is just less harsh on the ears

I have another machine with high tones and when detecting for long periods it gives me headaches

Here we go. I think we have all the tones in one thread for once.
