High Hopes, Disappointing results

Went to a site on Fri. That is approx. 1.25 miles east of a large Mo battle. The landowner had told me there appears to be remains of 2 old foundations. Only able to locate one, just basically a small foot high pile of rocks. The area is heavily timbered, with lots of blown down trees from previous tornado or high winds. Only finds were half an old horseshoe, broken handle off a fireplace tool(?) and a harmonica reed that appears newer than CW. My hunting buddy found a button there, but also appears newer than CW era.

Haven't given up on the site totally for CW activity. Trying to do more research on troop movements before and after the battle, but I'm really new to trying this kind of research and not having much success at it so far

Still was a fun hunt, and another learning opportunity for a CW relic rookie

There ya go. Find where the old roads were too. If there was a battle close, it is likely that the buildings may have been occupied for some purpose.

Chip, it happens to the best of us. I never get skunked but this year I've struck out more times than ever. Keep at it and remember old road, high ground, and water. Find those 3 together and you will find relics.

Bryan and Mike, thanks for the encouragement and advice. Finding a site is proving pretty elusive, but I enjoy the researching anyway. Just haven't been able to put it all together yet
