Hide them cables

Does anyone know of a kit or some other way to hide the coil cable on a SE with an X-1 probe?

Cut a slot in the shaft near the X-1 box a little larger than the 'screw ring' diameter of the cable connector.. Run it up through the shaft like you always did and just pop it out and into the box so it doesn't expose too much of what you're trying to hide or it's so short that it forces you to kink the cable. Did mine with a Dremel tool in about 10'. Technically it does weaken the shaft. In practical application is doesn't make any difference unless you are using the coil and rod to fend off rabid dogs (or the competition). Regards...Jim

I think Jim has a possible solution. Ive found having the cable outside more practical not to mention the speed of which you can change the coil. I wouldnt think you would get feedback unless the cable had significant movement, besided the cable on the newer coils are even more exposed than the older versions.

Weakening the shaft would be one of my concerns (as Grumpy stated). Longer coil change-outs as well as letting more dirt and moisture into the shaft are a couple others. I have seen many pictures of people's Explorers who have done this to conceal their cables and haven't heard anything bad about it to this point, so it would seem to be a plausible solution if you're so inclined.

Did you use a grommet in the hole?

No grommet. I just made sure the edges were really smooth. Also put it in a location where the cord does not have to make a sharp bend in order to hook into the box. The rubber grommet is a good idea but you'd have to make the hole maybe an 1/8" bigger all around to have room for the grommet to be seated and the lip on the grommet that protects the cable. The cord does not move when mounted that way so the danger of cutting into it is not significant. Jim

Thanks a bunch for the info!:pulltab:
