Hi - Lo Tones?

POLEWAGGER

New member
Hey guys!
I'm digging this Tesoro exclusive forum VERY much!
Has anyone posted a video with the high and low tones that I've heard about, but not experienced?
I have no regrets on getting my Cibola and adding 10 turn GB, all metal switch, and volume control, but now I'm curious about how the tone mod sounds.
I DO regret, not spending more time here, instead of that "other" forum.
Will be spending more time here and adding to the files in the near future!

Hey polewagger, welcome over heah! :)-----The tone "mod" (or adjustment) mostly depends on a persons hearing (and preference).----I've had both, the standard tone & high tone on a couple of my V's and preferred the high tone.------I've even stopped in the Tesoro plant & had a Vaquero changed to high tone once while I waited.-----It only took them about 15 minutes and the way I understand it, it invoilves changing a chip in the detector.----James Gifford (Tesoro) had me listen to it & told me he would change it back if I didn't like it---it costs $15 to do it.-----If you send it in, you pay the shipping to get it to Tesoro (and of course the 15 bucks) and I'm pretty sure the shipping back to you is on Tesoros nickel.---------There is one big "hitch" here though--I don't think Tesoro will work on a Cibola (or any of their detectors) that has been modded.-------Sending it in for the high tone before the mod would be the way to go.-----In any case, I think it is well worth having done.------This may be more info "overload" than you wanted! :)-----------Regards, Del

Thanks for the response D&P-OR!
Would really like to hear the difference before considering any change.
I've watched lots of videos of Vaqueros and Cibolas, but mine seems a little different than the average Cibola.
This thing will smack hard on a dime at 6" and if it's sitting nice and flat, it will disc to the end of the dial, (pennies won't do that) I can't tell it from a quarter!
Have detected the little 1/16"X1/8" screw on bottle cap pieces at several inches, and aluminum bottle caps can discriminate all the way out at 6"- 8" or more!
NEVER been able to run sens past 9-10 without extreme chatter.
I've been taking a break, due to a digging induced hand injury, but have been using the time off to do research and planning future hunts. I've spent the last 6mo scanning as much area as I could think of and collected almost exactly $100 in coinage, so now I know where I want to go back to, and also have some good ideas for finding more precious silver coins.
Silver coins to date are 2 war nickels, 2 Mercs, 1 Barber quarter.
A few small pieces of silver jewelry and no gold...YET.

I'm beginning to think that I would prefer a low tone on my Vaquero instead of the high tone. Does the low tone on the Vaquero sound anything like the low tone on the Compadre or Eldorado? The Compadre and Eldorado lower tones are pleasing to my ears.

Howdy Guys

My Pantera has both, low tone and a high tone, one low tone for low conductors and a high tone for higher condutors depending where you set notch control or you can adjust the notch contol for only high tone or a low tone only. Neat feature on an oldies detector.

To bad Tesoro does'nt put a audio file on their websight for each machines tones Hi - Low, so you can decide before buying or having it modified. Just Saying...............

I'm going to do my best to do a video of my Tesoro Vaquero and Bandito II uMax next week. Both have the high tone audio. 53Silver's Vaquero has the low tone audio. This will give you something to compare. Frankly, for my ears, I prefer the low tone audio. I'm either going to sell, trade or send my Vaquero in to Tesoro to have the tone changed. I haven't decided yet. I'll probably end up trading or selling my Tesoro Bandido II uMax. No final decision has been made yet. It's one sweet clean machine, but my ears don't do well with the high tones. At first I thought that liked the high tone audio, but have since decided otherwise. Here's a link showing some stuff that I found with it. Bandido II
