hi i just got a new ELITE it,s black and have,s 17 freq was it a good year i do not know the date.

The Black Sovereigns are the originals, the XS, the XS2 or the XS2a. Is the battery pack a drop in one or one that has a wire that has to be connected. The Drop in were the XS2 and the XS2a while the ones with the wire to be connected were the original or the XS.
Basically the XS, XS2 and the XS2a all work about the same and if it has not been messed with inside it should be a excellent detector to use, but remember it takes a little time to learn a Sovereign and once you do the Sovereign will do great for you.

Original were made back Early 1990
The XS were around 1995
The XS2 were around 1998
The XS2a were made around 2001
The Elites were made around 2003
The GT we have now were around 2005
These may not be exactly when they were made, but around this time period as I remember them.
