hi guys

Great detector.
Read a lot of the posts here to see how people set them up and try things.
I started using my Cibola running super tuned. Found it liked deep big pieces of iron that way.
I then set it up so the threshold was usable for pinpointing and found a whole new dimension. The discriminator seems to work much better running like that than when running super tuned. I could start to hear all the differences in the beep; the edges of the sound, solid or cracking tone and how it responds from different directions over a target. The pinpoint also then tells a lot of information by it's pitch and loudness and is very useful in sizing a target.

Best advice I have is to hunt a lot and spend time listening to the detector. Be patient and play. Try different settings over the target before digging and see how it responds. Start by keeping the discriminator set low. Work at thumbing the discriminator over targets to see where they drop out and spend time digging most all targets to see what the target really is so you can correlate what you did with the detector over the target and what it tells you to what the target really is. You will find your comfort zone with the detector.

Have you used it yet?

Do you have any specific questions about it?

There are lots of tips and tricks for using the Cibola. My first tip for you is to get a 5.75" concentric coil for it. Great in trash areas and makes the machine even lighter.

Do some testing with it with various targets (coins, rings, junk etc.) and see where stuff gets canceled out with the discrimination knob.

Also, don't sweep the coil right on the ground or sand. You'll get some falsing. Keep it about an inch or two off the ground.

What other detectors have you used?

Cheers,

I would like to start by saying thanx for the info. N o I have not used it outside yet, but i have been toying with a friends silver umax.I think i could really get into this again. I have only used really cheap det. in the past.

It's a nice machine.

Some people just don't like on screen.

But if you are tha analog type hunter,

You should love it.

Happy Huntin,

Go back for posts on the Cibola. It was my first Tesoro, well still is and still have it. I'd start right in the back yard with known targets and also to see what else is back there. Then expand from there. The 5.75 coil works well for trashy sites.

My advice is to hunt, hunt, hunt, and everytime you need to, ask a questioin.

dont sell it like i did , It is great at being turned down and can be turned up good and has good selection of coils and if you get ambitiouse youcan put a ground balance on it of the

The best advice I can give you is to not be afraid to ask questions on this forum.
These guys know their stuff and don't mind helping others out.
You can learn things on this forum that it would probably take years of trial and error to find out on your own.
Find some good sites and use your detector as much as you can.
Don't set the Disc. knob too high and you are going to have to dig some trash to find the good stuff, so don't get discouraged if you don't find anything of interest right from the start.
Good practice is to use the detector around schools and parks... sometimes nice things can be found at these places and you may be surprised at some of the goodies you find.
Good luck,
Felix
