Hi Guys - strange noises from excal

Thanks in advance for all replies ------ I received a new Excal 3 weeks ago. I have about 15 hours on it now. Last Sunday the threshold went crazy on the same beach front that I hunted the previous two weekends with no issues. It happened on three different occasions. When i got home i checked the battery voltage and it was 11.2 vdc (after about 5 hours of hunting) so i assume the battery was ok (charge). Any ideas?

Oh - the coil cover was not on and I have about a 4" loop of slack between the coil and where the cable is first secured on the lower shaft. The only piece that has been wet is the coil and up the shaft approximately 8" to 12"

Hi rdavisr, If the voltage is down BELOW 12 Volts, it is TIME to RECHARGE the battery pod!! The EXCAL operates on 14 VOLTS with a FULL CHARGE,
and when it gets BELOW 12 Volts, the THRESHOLD goes NUTS!! So, recharge your RECHARGABLE POD for AT LEAST 15 Hours, or whatever
your Owners Manual SUGGESTS!! I have been USING EXCALS for 10 Yrs!! HH, Les Robinson

Perfect NamvetLes

I appreciate the info. This is what i suspected But I wasnt sure exactly what that minimum battery charge should be before it goes bonkers

Everyone have a great Thanksgiving!!!

If it is a dead battery coming on...at 2.................14..............And 32 seconds this is what it will do.........the detector is in PP also

You know i have been wondering about light to signal complete charge. My Elite and GT batteries have them. I can see wanting to keep things water proof , but they could of put a light on the charger end. I guess a grand doesn't go too far these days.

Yes sir Old Beechnut it wasnt quite that steady of a tone but I was not in AM/PP so that might be the difference

Erikk - I do have that I bought the "battery tender" model. The light was green which means full charge but I guess not. I will take a quick look with my VOM before each hunt

Thanks Guys

let me chime in on this post, i carry a 12 volt battery fast charger with me while I'm out hunting on the beach,i can fast charge my packs in about 10 Min's or so,its safe and will keep your battery's up to par, i also use the same charger to cycle my battery packs to ,just to insure there long life at there fullest, you can buy these at your local hobby stores for around 40 bucks or so for a good one as like everything on the markets there's cheap ones and expensive ones too,you ll just have to see whats best for your self, coming from the r\c hobby flying helicopters and airplanes,we need to make very certain our battery packs are up and going to last for the flight with no drainage that cause a crash..so get a good battery cycler and fast charger..if you need any info please contact me..
