Hi Guys, I'm new to the Whites line of detectors and have a couple questions please.

NH Bob

New member
I have done a mini field test on the MXT last summer along with a mixed brand of other machines. I found it rather interesting as I've never used Whites before.
I am basically a Minleab person and presently use the SE.
I am no stranger to this hobby but am naive to the M6 in its depth capabilities and VDI response.
If some of you could give me a little user run down on the M6 it would help me decide if I really want to invest in one.
I hunt old coins and some relics and do not need all the programmability of the DFX or XLT. Just want to keep it simple.
Please feel free to let it all hang out. Good and Bad.
Thank you for responding. NH Bob

This question as been covered. Look down on this page to M6 beach mode, and Question for MXT on this page. Then search this site. Here is a review written by Rommelvon. Rob

Hi all, I feel the need to tell my story, I have had my M6 since august, I have found more coins and jewelry with this machine than my 2 previous machines combined, also, older and deeper, This M6 has hunted alongside every top non whites detector out there and also the DFX, MXT, IDX......on the beach, the beach mode pulls deep targets in wet and dry sand with no feedback at all...performs like a dream, on inland farms, fields, parks etc....the M6 shines, my latest 2 deep finds (merc and a walker) were in a patch of land that had just been hunted by a Minelab SE, the ML missed them, the M6 did not, both were at around 9 inches in compacted earth and the M6 target ID was spot on both times, I was using the stock 950 coil and the soil here is very dry, I'm a true believer that the wetter the soil, the better the detecting but dry soil doesn't hurt the depth of the M6. I also use the 5.3 coil in trashy areas and have found several silver coins in areas of the park that is trashed with pulltabs, fence clippings etc...I get an average depth of about 7 on the 5.3 coil. It is in my opinion the White's M6 is the best coin and jewelry machine out there, and it does a darn good job of finding relics as well, just go zero discr and you will pull bullets at 9 inches, and the deepest button I have found so far was a 7. the fellow I hunted the last farm with is selling his ML to get a whites, we have hunted all types of land together and the white's always reigns supreme, so if you are looking for the best coin and jewelry detector out there...get an M6...you will not regret it.....oh and also get a quality set of headphones, ones made for detectors, I use the Gray Ghost deep woods phones....you hear every tiny sound the detector makes...plus they keep your ears warm on cold days......Happy Hunting all----Rommelvon

ine been asking question between m6 and mxtpast month or so on here.ive been leaning toward the mxt but what i read about m6 may change my mind.please help lol.
n/t
I'm a park and school hunter kind of guy. I have owned Bounty Hunters, Minelabs, Garretts, Whites and Tesoro's.
The soverign GT I must admit found the deep ones. But I think the design of the machine sucks. A real hassle to use. Also I only used the stock 10 inch coil on it so that may be the reason for finding the deep ones.
The M6 has found a 1917 WL half at about 8 inches last summer in a park I hunted a lot. To date, that has been my best find so far coin wise . I used a 8" Excellarator DD coil on it and I'm impressed with the depth that gives me. Outside of that one find, I haven't found much to brag about except the gold necklace I found a couple of weeks ago. That could have been found by any detector. I was just lucky enough to stumble over it with mine. I just started using the M6 last summer and I'm just now getting to understand it better. I think I'm gonna find a lot more deep ones soon. I'll keep ya posted.

I have, after much research decided to get the MXT.
I am a little surprised at the Whites board for the lack of help one gets when coming to a new forum and asking about a new machine.
This of course is with the exception of you and rcasio44.
I read the book by Jeff Foster on The MXT Edge last night. That along with other help has helped me understand the Whites line of detectors.
Thanx again for your help Dang.

Hi Bob , You replied to a couple of questions I had on the minelab forum, and I appreciated that. I know you already decided to get the MXT and its a proven coin and relic machine with the guys that use it. I have had an M6 since may -07.I don't want to sound like I'm bashing it because I'm not, but you wanted honest opinion on its drawbacks ,if any. I think the two or three things about its design that could be improved (1). is the fact that the volume is directly tied in to the sensitivity knob, that doesn't work too well when you turn sensitivity down then lose your volume. (2). The sensitivity knob gets bump and turned down when you put your hand in and out of the armcuff . I think that knob could've been placed on the left side , center of the box and a seperate vol. knob also. Now I do mostly school and park hunting. The 6x10 coil is the best all around coil for the M6 and MXT in my opinion. It goes almost as deep as the stk. but gets so much better seperation and cleaner hits, and ID's very good as well.I was amazed at the depth of the M6 when I started using it and was pulling some pretty deep coins with it in places that I had hunted with fisher and tesoro det before. My deepest silver dime with it was 7" and I got a silver religious medal at 9" with it on the first hunt. I found 29 silver coins with it from may to the beginning of December of this year, I know that doesn't sound like much, but I was averaging about 5 or 6 silver coins a year before I got it. It works best set to 0 disc with the tones on in trashy areas, but will hit a little louder and cleaner in single tone, and as much sensitvity as you can get. The M6 runs very quiet till you reach the max sens the site will allow , then you will hear it begin to make some noise but not bad. It doesn't go as deep as the EX II that I recently bought, but it is simple to work with in comparison. Its such an easy to use machine that there isn't much to say about it that one wouldn't be able to discover in a few short hours of using it.I can't say for sure about the MXT, but on the M6 the audio response gets iffy and the numbers jump around pretty good on the deep good targets,(>7") but it usually will bounce into the good tone and ID range with a few sweeps over the target. Pinpointing is a breeze also. All in all the M6 has been the best detector I have ever used up to this point and the most fun, but now I have an EX II and already pulled some deep coins in places that the M6 couldn't find anymore, I used the whites Super-12 coil a few times and didn't see a need for it in my type of hunting, so I traded it for the 6x10 and never regretted it.Anyway I think you would like using any one of the two, but the MXT has a threshold which is a plus.and a few other user selective options, but if you hunt in 0 disc it doesn't make a lot of difference anyway.
If you get a Whites machine you can go to the Whites forum at Tnet and there are a bunch of guys and gals there using the MXT and making some real good finds with it. They are a nice bunch over there and willing to help also.....HH....and Merry Christmas..Rich in La.

Thanx Rich,
That was great information and I was with you on it after reading Jeff Fosters book. Going back over some of it now.
I guess I'm pretty much sold on the MXT. I still have my SE so all bases are covered. I'll use the MXT in the Relic mode all the time anyway. And I got the 6x10 DD also. Now I gotta wait till spring. That could take a while here in NH.
